Captured one day while separated from his family, Agron is sold into Roman slavery as a young boy. He spends only a brief time at Titus’ ludus before he’s given as a parting gift to a wealthy Syrian family traveling home to Damascus. Agron longs to escape to his native land, but he finds these Syrians to be kind people, his dominus’ son, Nasir, the most beguiling and lovely of them all. As the years pass the more difficult the prospect of leaving behind Nasir becomes. Freedom or love? Agron fears whatever he chooses will surely rip him in two.
